Ceremony to award the Membership of the MCFD (MMCFD)

During the last College Extraordinary General Meeting of the 5th May 2006, the “MMCFD Policy Document” was unanimously approved (with one abstention) and made operational. The document is available for perusal from here. The document set up the Membership of the Malta College of Family Doctors (MMCFD) as a degree of excellence, to be awarded after an examination at the end of formal Specialist Training in Family Medicine. The document also set up an acquired rights provision, whereby all Specialists in Family Medicine registered with the Specialist Accreditation Committee would be awarded the MMCFD without the need for an exam on joining the College.

The first Memberships were awarded during a ceremony which was held at the ballroom of the  Radisson SAS Bay Point on the 28th July 2006.  The ceremony was well attended and around 80 members were awarded the MMCFD.  The evening started with a short speech by the outgoing MCFD president Dr. Pierre Mallia who outlined how this memorable day had been achieved by the hard work of all.  The MMCFD certificates where then presented by the president, who was helped by Dr. Michael Angelo Borg (MCFD Registrar) and Dr. Jean Karl Soler (Secretary of the Membership Board).  This was followed by a Gala Dinner which was enjoyed by all.  The evening will remain a milestone in the history of the College and in the memory of its members.

Photos of the event will soon be available on the website.

Doctors who are eligible for the MMCFD can still apply.  Please follow the links below for further details on how to attain the MMCFD.
